As any world renowned chef or even a self-certified grill master will tell you, quality ingredients make all the difference. Good quality wood not only adds subtle overtures to the flavor profile but provides a sure-fire way to fuel your Sea Island Forge Fire/Cooking Kettle.
Choose between three distinct wood flavors:
HICKORY
Characteristics: Deep (almost syrupy) and rich
Cooking styles: Barbequing, grilling, or smoking.
Pairs well with: Ribs, brisket, pork.
Hickory wood is a cooking staple. It is recognized worldwide as one of the most popular types of woods to smoke with. Providing a very distinct, smokey, bacon like flavor, it is unmistakable in taste and one of the most popular woods to cook with among the best BBQ champions in the industry.
OAK
Characteristics: Classic oak taste; Rich flavor
Cooking styles: Barbequing, grilling, or smoking
Pairs well with: Long cook times, Texas-style BBQ.
Oak is considered the king of all hardwoods. It may be one of the best-known woods used by chefs and one of the hottest burning to cook with. Many think of oak as the classic cooking wood. It provides a medium, rich oaky flavor while not overpowering.
CHERRY
Characteristics: Sweet and subtle fruit undertones.
Cooking styles: Grilling or smoking
Pairs well with: Vegetables, Steak, Chicken, Seafood.
Cherry wood has a beautiful red tint to it that makes you curious about its flavor. It is sweet and fruity and can be used to cook alone or to supplement with other woods. Many chefs will add it to their base to inject that special fruit flavor. Like the old saying “It’s the cherry on top”
MIXED HARDWOOD
Characteristics: A mixed blend of all hardwood varietals.
Cooking styles: Barbequing, grilling, smoking.
Pairs well with: Ribs, brisket, pork, steak, and pizza.
This Northeast Hardwood blend is one of our most popular, consisting of oak, maple, hickory, cherry, ash, and beech. This perfect mix gives you a blend of many flavor profiles to try individually, or mixed together.
Dense hardwoods such as Cherry provide more fruity undertones versus the nutty and smokey profiles of Oak and Hickory.
The benefits of KILN DRIED Wood:
Premium cooking woods should all have a moisture content no greater than 20%. This is why kiln-dried firewood is the optimal choice for leading chefs. Wood that is otherwise too green (and therefore likely has a higher moisture content), will smolder and produce acrid smoke, which can really ruin a mood.
On top of being extremely easy to light and burn, kiln dried firewood is energy efficient, which is good for your wallet and your comfort. As compared to the traditional choice of seasoned wood, our kiln dried firewood produces up to 35% more heat, providing optimal heat from your Kettle-Style Fire Pit.
ADDITIONALLY... Our firewood is clean, with no bugs, insects, molds, or other contaminants ... and unlike some traditional types of firewood, kiln dried firewood produces less creosote, so you can spend less time maintaining your Kettle, and more time Gathering 'Round and making memories.
Premier Firewood Co.™ offers only the highest quality, ethically produced firewood.
